Cosy Sheridan and TR Ritchie 2009

Sheridan has been called “one of the era’s finest and most thoughtful singer/songwriters.” Winner of both the Telluride Bluegrass Troubadour Contest and the Kerrville Folk Festival’s NewFolk Songwriting Contest, she has played everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Her songs have appeared on the Jerry Lewis Telethon, The Dr Demento Show, in best-selling author Robert Fulghum’s new book “Third Wish”, on NPR’s Car Talk, and in the documentary “Wrenched.”

Sheridan, together with her partner, fellow songwriter and bassist, TR Ritchie gives one of the most entertaining and intelligent concert performances on the folk circuit. She is a storyteller as well as a songwriter, weaving children’s stories into stories of modern adulthood: The Little Engine That Could discusses quality of life issues with Ferdinand The Bull. Her modern renditions of mythology (we meet Hades the biker) have won her fans and praise. The Cornell Folksong Society wrote: “Sheridan is frank, feisty, sublimely and devilishly funny. She fuses myth with modern culture; Persephone with Botox.”

Sheridan first appeared on the national folk scene in 1992 when she won the songwriting contests at the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and released her critically acclaimed CD Quietly Led on Waterbug Records. Folk Music Quarterly wrote: “When she’s accepting her Grammy, we can say we knew her when.”

Since then she’s released 5 more CDs, and written a one-woman-show (and accompanying CD) entitled The Pomegranate Seed – An Exploration of Appetite, Body-Image and Myth in Modern Culture. She recently composed a song-cycle for best-selling author Robert Fulghum’s new book Third Wish – which has been at the top of the bestseller list in the Czech Republic since last year.

“Somewhere in the uncharted territory of Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Dr. Ruth, and Deepak Chopra is you at a Cosy Sheridan concert – laughing and crying. Go there.” – CATIE CURTIS
